Me 262 C-3a Heimatschutzer IV
The Me 262 C-3 a Heimatschutzer IV ( Home Defender IV) was a design for a rocket boosted version of the 262. This had the Walter HWK 509 A-2 rocket engine mounted in a jettisonable fairing beneath the fuselage.
The dangerous caustic T-Stoff was kept entirely outside the aircraft ( in a drop tank) and could be jettisoned in case of danger.
Three prototype of the C-3 were to be built, but none of these was completed before the end of the war. The main problem delaying the development of the variant was that the tanks supplying the rockets were mounted slightly below it and this resulted in severe fuel supply difficulties.
