Matilda II (Infantry Tank Mark IIa). The Mark II fitted with a 7.92mm Besa co-axial MG in place of original Vickers type and turret ventilator.
Matilda IIa/M ~ Mild steel training tank.
Matilda IIb ~ A12E2 modified with 7 litre Leyland diesel engine and Wilson gearbox and steering system. Later used as testbed for Freeborn automatic transmission system.
Matilda IICS ~ Fitted with 3" Howitzer for close support smoke and high explosive suppressive fire.
Matilda II TLC ~ Fitted with carpet laying device.
Matilda III ~ (Infantry Tank Mark IIa*) Fitted with leyland diesel engine which replaced the original AEC versions.

Matilda with AMBA:...On the mineclearing variant, the Matilda pushed heavy rollers.
Matilda Baron: This was a turretless Matilda hull fitted with a mine 'flail'for mine clearing. The Marks I and II retained the turret - the Mark II had engines for turning the flails mounted on the sides.
Matilda Carrot ~ Anti-mine roller device with single deflection shield and 600lbhigh explosive demolition charge carried on front of frame and detonated by remote control.
Matilda CDL These were Matilda II's and V's fitted with a new special turret which contained a powerfull De Thoren flashing arc searchlight for illuminating night battlefields.

Matilda Dozer No 1 Mark 1 ~ Australian dozer tank with Britsand box-shaped dozer blade raised and lowered using cables.

Matilda Frog Mark I ~ Australian flamethrower version based on Matilda IV & V with flamethrower replacing 2pdr gun.
Matilda Heavy Carrot ~ 600 punds of high explosive on a plain girder with double roller. Carrot was a 600lb/272kg demolition charge held on a frame in front of the Matilda. It was placed against an obstacle and detonated from inside the tank.
Matilda Lobster ~ Crab type rotor arms with Baron type rotor and flail.
Matilda Murray ~ Australian developed flamethrower version similar to Frog but with higher rate of fire due to the cordite charge propellant.
Matilda Plough ~ Fitted with truncated AMRA frame, large ploughshares and lorry wheels
Matilda Scorpion [Prototype] ~ Flail tank with flail on lattice girder driven by engine mounted on right side over tracks. A middle East mine clearing flail tank - used at El-Alamein in 1942.

- Matilda Baron III ~ Version with lower perambulator-type flail shaft-driven from bedord engines mounted over the rear of each track.
- Matilda Baron IIIa ~ Turretless version of the Baron III with operators cab in space formerely occupied by the turret.
