Germany - Horten Aircraft

Horten Ho XII

On a trip to Chemnitz the Hortens were able to inspect the auxiliary powerplant of a He 177. It was powered by a six cylinder DKW engine, developing 90 HP. They decided that it would be suitable for a light trainer to prepare pilots for the Ho VII.The Ho XII was built secretly, as official approval was not expected. Scheidhauer test flew the two place side-by-side machine as a glider near the end of 1944. The flight was too short to test the airfoil. The DKW engine was never installed.
