Fw 190 V12
A FW A-0/U12 was fitted with many of the elements which eventually led to the B series. It was equipped with a BMW 801D-2 with a GM1. The GM-1 Tank had already been tested on previous Fw190s. The Fw 190 V12 prototype featured a rudimentary pressure cabin, and retained the Fw 190A’s wing and BMW 801C engine with the GM 1 nitrous oxide power-boost system. Wingspan increased to 40 ft 4.25 in (12,30 m) and an area increase of 21.53 sq ft (2,00 m²). There were considerable problems with the pressure cabin and GM 1 system, and when the German air ministry also realized the extent to which firepower would have to be sacrificed to offset the weight of the pressure cabin and GM 1 system, it ordered an end to the Fw 190B program at about the time that the first six production aircraft were completed.

Fw 190 B-0
Pressurised Cabin and a turbocharged BMW 801
The Main armarment stayed the same, 2x MG 17s, 2x MG 151s and a Rüstsatz for 2x MG FF in the outer wings. A dropable 300 Liter tank could also be installed. The GM-1 was filled with Nitrous Oxide and should pump it into the engine above the "Full pressure height" to increase the engine performance. It increased the performance of the BMW 801 D engine up to 300HP more. However, this tank weighted 150kg - permanently and was only usefull for a maximum of 15 minutes.
During a testflight of a Fw190 B, the testpilot Alfred Motsch hit 11km altitude when he suddenly got attacked by 3x P-51 Mustangs. Since it was a testflight, his weapons had no ammunition and the only chance to survive was retreating. He activated the GM-1 tank and increased his altitude and speed. After he outclimbed all 3x P-51s, the went into a dive and was able to get away from them. He landed successfully and proved the usefullness of the GM-1 tank and the Fw190 B.

The Fw190 B-0 preproduction series consisted out of the Fw190 V 46; V 47; V 48 and V 49. But only the last one had the GM-1 tank filled with 85 Liter.
Fw 190 B-1
This aircraft was similar to the B-0, but had slightly different armament. In its initial layout, the B-1 was to be fitted with four 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 17s and two 20 mm MG-FFs. One was fitted with two MG 17s, two 20 mm MG 151s and two 20 mm MG-FFs. After the completion of W.Nr. 811, no further Fw 190 B models were ordered.
