Germany Flame Thrower Tanks

Flammpanzer VI Tiger

The first reference to this idea is from the Hitler conference on 5 Dec 1944.

The proposed Flammpanzer Tiger I was turretless. The Flamethrower was a new design and the discussions had talked about adding extra armour to the front of Tiger. To date no drawings have been found, even of the flamethrower, so it is only possible to speculate about the ultimate appearance.

The last report was on 3 April 1945 concluding that the planned completion of a Versuchs Flammpanzer (Tiger I) for testing by 15 Apr 1945 could not now be achieved because the turretless Tiger I chassis and Strickstoffflammengerät sent by Kummersdorf destined for assembly by Wegmann in Kassel had already been 17 days on rail transport due to the war situation. A decision was made to divert this train to MIAG in Braunschweig.
