Dornier Do PP Project
The Museums Display Piece:
Unicraft Dornier PP ProjectThere are a limited number of reviews of Unicraft kits on the web given the number of kits available and the esoteric range that Unicraft produce.
Having seen Gunther Arnolds website www.http://modelplanes.de with some great looking Unicraft kits, I was inspired. I wrote to him asking if these resin model kits for the expert modeller were as difficult as all the warnings were. He replied that the most useful parts were the fuselage and the wings, the smaller details were not so useful and to have fun. I went ahead and bought a kit anyway. I figured that at worst I would throw away the kit and the money I spent on it. At best I would have a great model and somewhere in between I would push my modelling skills forward. In the box was a 3 part fuselage, the wings and tailplanes etc. and are probably the most useful. The propellers, wheels landing gear and cockpit accessories were "not so useful". The model itself is as rough as guts and a lot of sanding is required to smooth out the surfaces. I have still not completed this satisfactorily. Adding the cowling and the rear end of the fuselage required a lot of milliput and further sanding. The parts themselves seem to be squashed given the oval shape of parts that I would have assumed would be round. The panel lines will need to be scribed in but I am not sure the resin will tolerate this. I am going to have to scratch build the the landing gear using the kit parts as a template. I have obtained 2 sets of propellers to replace the Unicraft ones.
