The Sheikh of Bahrain declared war on Germany on September 10, 1939. On October 19, 1940, four Italian planes bombed Bahrain to destroy oil refineries supplying the Allies.[11] The raid caused minimal damage to the oil refineries but made the Allies increase the defense around Bahrain (being an UK protectorate).
