BA-64V
The first attempt (in July 1942) t develop a rail version of the BA-64 was undertaken by the Vyksunskiy factory. Using the stored quantities of the rail wheels, which remained from the days of BA-20ZhD's (the abbreviation "ZhD" means "Zheleznodorozhniy" or railway), the factory made the railway modification of the BA-64.
In December 1942, the modernized BA-64V ("V" means "Vyksunskiy") was sent to the trials. The total weight increased to 2586 kg. The trials revealed some other disadvantages: the reverse speed was only 13 km/h an unreliable gearbox in reverse, and the air-cooling was inadequate when in reverse leading to overheating.
